Objective
Sheet Metal Estimators use industry experience along with construction plans to estimate expenditures and budget for different construction projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop complete budgets and plans for projects
Develop conceptual budgets and RFP responses
Prepare bids and cost estimates that address every part of a mechanical project
Estimate labor costs for a project, including travel and subsistence pay, if applicable
Keep mechanical projects within the client’s budget limitations (Value Engineering)
Confirm all cost estimates submitted by our company are accurate
Work with others to estimate the types and amounts of materials needed to complete construction jobs
Organize, compile, and compare equipment and subcontractor quotes for estimates
Maintain constant contact with project managers to estimate the duration of a project
Estimate costs of inclement weather and unforeseen events
Consult experts when performing difficult cost estimations
Re-figure cost estimates when necessary
Submit customized reports to clients
Offer advice to others concerning cost effectiveness for different materials or products
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of how to read and comprehend blueprints, in addition to basic drafting skills
Knowledge of the complex workings of sheet metal and HVAC systems
Must have strong computer skills, especially knowledge of spread sheets
Knowledge of how to use file transfer programs to send large drawing files to others
Operational knowledge of estimating, project management, and construction scheduling software
Effective written and verbal communication skills, both professional and interpersonal
The ability to work both independently and within a team
A responsible, organized, and detail-oriented mindset
Refined time management skills and the ability to multi-task
Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills, in addition to strong math and science skills
Work Environment Considerations
Must be able to work in high-pressure situations facing strict deadlines. Extended shifts may be necessary, and hours will often exceed 40 per week to perform duties effectively
Must be familiar with job site safety requirements and be prepared to wear a hardhat, work boots, and goggles at potentially hazardous job sites
Most time will be in the office, but some trips to job sites and customer locations are required

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management or experience working in mechanical contracting
Knowledge of construction processes, and sheet metal and HVAC systems
